A Life Rescued at North Sound Golf Club
In October 2023, a casual round of golf at North Sound Golf Club became a dramatic fight for survival when Andy Adapa collapsed on the 18th green. Local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Alwin Almeida, part of Andy’s foursome, noticed signs of heat exhaustion just moments earlier. When Andy collapsed, Dr. Almeida sprang into action—positioning him safely, initiating CPR, and calling for an AED.
The first analysis advised no shock, so Dr. Almeida continued chest compressions. Eventually, the AED prompted a shock—and still, Andy showed no signs of recovery. As his lips began turning blue, Dr. Almeida delivered rescue breaths. Moments later, Andy began breathing on his own. Emergency services arrived shortly after, and Andy made a full recovery.
This powerful story highlights the critical importance of AED accessibility and immediate CPR and rescue breaths. Today, Andy continues to champion heart health awareness, forever grateful for the quick response that saved his life.
